Industry

The technical industry is in full motion. The Dutch industry is in the midst of a digital transformation that offers many new opportunities. Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays an important role in this, both in terms of applications and business models. It is crucial for the technological industry to succeed in this transformation across the board. Technology is necessary to address some of the major societal challenges we face, such as energy, environment, climate, healthcare, and safety.

The Dutch AI Coalition works closely with the Smart Industry program and aims to make the Netherlands the best learning, most flexible, and best digitally integrated production network in Europe. The program offers great opportunities to promote the application of AI in the Dutch industry and better leverage the data generated by the industry itself. (Source: https://nlaic.com)

Industry and AI in Eastern Netherlands

In Eastern Netherlands, companies, knowledge institutions, and governments are working together to accelerate the digitalization of the industry. Eastern Netherlands has a strong manufacturing industry with many hidden champions in the Achterhoek, Twente, Zwolle, and the Veluwe. We aim to be a model region for digitalizing SMEs in the manufacturing industry with innovative business models at the intersection of production, services, and sustainability.

We build projects with entrepreneurs in Gelderland and Overijssel around themes such as AI for Asset Health Management (predictive maintenance and diagnostics), Process Optimization and Innovation, Industrial Robotics, and Sustainability (energy and resource consumption) and (safe) data sharing. The focus of the AI hub in this domain is on stimulating solutions that are integrable and applicable within existing production systems.

For the Industry & AI domain, we collaborate with the University of Twente, Radboud University, Wageningen University & Research, the industrial research groups of the Saxion, Windesheim, and HAN universities of applied sciences, and Graafschap College / CIVON. Our partners include organizations like EDIH BOOST, RCT Gelderland, NovelT, Kennispoort, Koninklijke Metaalunie / Teqnow, FME.

Key (test) locations in this area include Perron 038 (Zwolle), Fraunhofer Innovation Platform (Enschede), CIVON (Ulft), Smart Welding Factory (Hengelo), Fieldlab Industrial Robotics (Harderwijk), and IPKW (Arnhem).

ICAI Labs

ICAI is the Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence. An ICAI Lab is a research collaboration between one or more industrial, governmental, or non-profit partners and one or more knowledge institutions. ICAI Labs focus on AI technology, are outward-facing, and aim at knowledge transfer. Within an ICAI Lab, at least 5 PhD students conduct research on a common topic. At Radboud University and Radboudumc, the following ICAI Lab has been established within the Industry theme:
