Successful Pilot by Berko Wijchen BV at MKB Datalab-Oost

News Industry Other

Berko Wijchen BV, a company specializing in compressed air systems, has recently participated successfully in a pilot project at MKB Datalab-Oost. This pilot, known as the Data Buddy project, was conducted by Lars Zandbergen, a talented AI master's student from Radboud University. Within one week, he completed an extensive analysis of AI opportunities within Berko. The project, characterized by its efficient and structured approach, comprised the following phases: interviews, data analysis, mapping and prioritizing AI opportunities, and a final report.

The first two days were dedicated to in-depth interviews with various Berko employees across different departments. These interviews aimed to identify pain points, specific needs, and challenges faced by the company. The following day was devoted to data analysis, where the student thoroughly examined the collected data to gain valuable insights. Midweek, an interim evaluation took place with the Berko director, the Radboud University supervisor, and the MKB Datalab-Oost manager. After mapping and prioritizing the various opportunities based on their value, the week concluded with a comprehensive report presenting the findings and recommendations.

The final report contained significant insights into Berko's data readiness and outlined the AI opportunities within the organization. Two major opportunities for further optimization were identified:

  1. Optimization of Inventory Management: The current inventory management methods can be made more efficient by implementing AI solutions. This optimization could lead to improved inventory accuracy and cost savings.

  2. Document Classification and Organization: The second project focuses on simplifying the processing, management, and linking of documentation and administration. This could significantly enhance operational efficiency and reduce the time spent on administrative tasks.

With these valuable insights, Berko is now well-positioned to take further steps in their digital transformation. The next phase following the Data Buddy project will focus on implementing these two AI projects, which will also be executed by Radboud University students under the guidance of MKB Datalab-Oost.

Thanks to the collaboration with MKB Datalab-Oost and the success of this pilot, Berko has laid a strong foundation for future success and innovation. This case demonstrates the power of data analysis and AI in small and medium-sized enterprises and how targeted interventions can lead to substantial improvements and growth opportunities.
